Herbert Hoover National Historic Site Walkways

West Branch, IA

Big Muddy designed a new accessible walkway which runs through an area of restored prairie as it connects to the Hoover Gravesite to the nearby public parking lot. The walk is pervious concrete, designed to absorb and infiltrate stormwater to protect the prairie hillside and replenish local groundwater.

The Workshop also designed replacement walks, using standard concrete, which connect to the adjacent Presidential Library, park, historical building, and visitor center area. To meet NPS’s construction schedule, the project was designed and ready to bid in eight weeks, which is half of the typical design period
