One Pacific Place Park
An open space located within a mixed use development of apartment, condominiums, retail shops and offices, now provides a park for relaxing, walking and observing nature, which has been invited back onto this degraded site through extensive habitat restoration and careful recreational development. This new City of Omaha park, designed by the Big Muddy Workshop, provides visitors with a natural setting that encourages an abundance of wildlife. A created oxbow wetland replicates the cut-off stream channels once common along Big Papio Creek.Running through the park is a 1/2-mile, barrier free pedestrian trail, with benches to encourage conversation, relaxation and observation. A nature-based children's' play area includes shelters, tipis, a sand beach and play dock to encourage young visitors to pretend they are on a science expedition or other adventures limited only by imagination. An overlook includes a wayside interpretive exhibit with artwork and text to allow young children to understand the importance of wetlands to plants and animals.
