Hitchcock Park

      This southeast Omaha park serves nearby older neighborhoods
      and attracts visitors from throughout the city with its indoor
      ice-skating rink, Olympic-sized pool and sports fields. Greeting
      visitors at the park's entry is a lagoon framed by groves of
      mature shade trees. Redevelopment of this park included rehabilitation
      of the lagoon, development of accessible walkway, and a new picnic
      shelter and playground.

      
The centerpiece of the redevelopment was improvement of the
      lagoon, to improve fishing. The lagoon was dredged and deepened
      to create a year-round fishery. The shoreline was stabilized
      with aquatic plantings. A small wetland and riparian buffer strip
      filters run-off entering the lagoon. Several fishing points jut
      out into the lagoon to improve angler success.
